FLORA & FAUNA TOU-RES’ CENTER

DESIGN STATEMENT

Mersing is a small fishing village, a stopover for those traveling to the nearby islands and for those wishing to explore the national park Endau Rompin. In recent years it turns into a busy coastal town, gaining a reputation as a gateway to some of the most beautiful islands in Peninsular Malaysia. The issue is that most of the tourist think Mersing as a transit point only, where it has so much potential as a tourist spot. Thus, creating inland activity and a tourist center would allow Mersing to present its vast biodiversity and ecology to the tourist at the same time create bonding between tourists and locals. Based on the site analysis, there are three issues; endangered species, limited inland activity, and socio-economic, that are interrelated to each other where a ‘TOU-RES’ Centre would be an answering point to these issues.
